Recent polling trends and byelection results have positioned Parti Québécois leader Paul St-Pierre Plamondon as the frontrunner to become Quebec's next premier after the October 5, 2026, general election. The PQ maintains a modest lead or statistical tie in voting intentions, bolstered by consistent strength among francophone voters that supports a projected majority in the National Assembly. Charles Milliard, acclaimed as Quebec Liberal Party leader in February 2026, has narrowed the gap in some surveys through efforts to rebuild support outside Montreal. Christine Fréchette's April victory in the Coalition Avenir Québec leadership race stabilized the governing party but has not reversed its broader decline ahead of the vote, leaving Éric Duhaime and smaller-party candidates with minimal traction.
