Romania's government collapsed on May 5 following a successful no-confidence vote against interim Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan, prompting President Nicușor Dan to schedule consultations with parliamentary parties starting May 18 to identify a viable majority for a new nominee. This fluid environment of coalition negotiations among pro-EU forces, including the Social Democrats and Liberals, has produced a fragmented field where no single candidate commands dominant support, keeping implied probabilities tightly clustered near the top. Traders are pricing in the constitutional requirement for parliamentary investiture and the risk of prolonged talks or a technocratic option, with recent statements from Dan emphasizing the need for confirmed backing over experiments. Upcoming party meetings and any announced nominee could quickly realign sentiment ahead of the June 30 resolution window.

To count for resolution, the individual must be formally appointed by the President of Romania and receive a vote of confidence from Parliament, resulting in the official formation of a new government. Any interim or caretaker Prime Minister who does not receive a parliamentary vote of confidence will not count toward the resolution of this market.
If no such Prime Minister takes office by December 31, 2027, 11:59 PM ET, this market will resolve to “Other”.
The primary resolution source for this market will be official information from the Government of Romania; however, a consensus of credible reporting may also be used.
