Incumbent Dorothy McCabe leads trader assessments for the October 26, 2026 Waterloo mayoral election due to her established record since the 2022 victory and the advantages of incumbency in a municipal contest. McCabe, who filed early and has emphasized housing affordability, transit improvements, and regional advocacy while rejecting strong-mayor powers, faces a rematch against Shannon Weber, her closest 2022 challenger in a race decided by just 331 votes. Both candidates maintain distinct geographic strongholds from the prior contest, supporting the view of a competitive rematch. Late nominations by Jeyas Balaskanthan, Jamie Hari, and Jerry Jiang on the August 21 deadline added options but have not shifted positioning ahead of the vote. The election remains two months away, leaving room for campaign developments to influence outcomes.
