Trump's administration is advancing negotiations with Denmark to expand U.S. military access in Greenland, including plans for three new bases in the south, as part of broader Arctic security priorities. Following earlier threats of acquisition and tariffs, Trump ruled out force or penalties at the January 2026 Davos forum, shifting focus to a working group and framework talks with Danish and Greenlandic officials. No presidential itinerary to the territory has been confirmed through mid-2026, though prior family visits and scaled-back vice-presidential stops in 2025 underscored sustained interest. Any breakthrough in base agreements or scheduled diplomatic events within the next several months could prompt a trip to review facilities or signal U.S. commitment.
