Amazon shares closed at $256.97 on September 8, 2026, after pulling back roughly 10% from the August high near $287 amid investor caution over sustained AI capital expenditures despite accelerating fundamentals. AWS revenue grew 36.7% year-over-year in Q2 to a $169 billion annualized run rate, with AI and custom-chip businesses each exceeding $25 billion run rates and operating margins near 39%. The stock trades at about 20.7 times trailing earnings against consensus forward estimates reflecting continued double-digit top-line growth, though recent sessions show elevated volatility around the 52-week range of $196–$287. Next earnings on October 29 and any intraday macro data releases remain key near-term catalysts for resolution of the September 9 close.
