Banxico has held its benchmark policy rate steady at 6.50% since the May 2026 cut, including a unanimous decision at the August 6 meeting, as headline inflation eased to 3.10% and core inflation to 3.95% while the board cited appropriate monetary restraint amid upside risks from geopolitical tensions and global trade policies. Recent communications and analyst surveys reinforce expectations of a prolonged pause through year-end, with the median Reuters forecast seeing the rate unchanged at 6.50% into 2027 given moderate GDP growth and the need to monitor peso stability and the U.S.-Mexico rate differential. This backdrop underpins the 84.5% market-implied probability of no change at the November 5 decision, with limited odds for a 25 basis point move reflecting the data-dependent stance ahead of the September 24 meeting and upcoming inflation releases.
