Incumbent Democrat Gabriel Vasquez faces Republican Greg Cunningham in New Mexico’s 2nd congressional district on November 3, 2026. Major forecasters rate the race Lean Democratic or Likely/Tilt Democratic, citing Vasquez’s incumbency advantage, stronger fundraising edge exceeding $3 million, and the district’s recent Democratic holds despite Donald Trump carrying it narrowly in 2024. Cunningham won the June Republican primary after early internal polling showed a near tie, yet limited subsequent public surveys and consistent race ratings have sustained Democratic positioning. Traders appear to weigh these structural factors and the absence of major late shifts more heavily than the district’s presidential lean or one early competitive snapshot.
