The Swiss National Bank’s September 24 monetary policy assessment occurs against a backdrop of persistently low inflation, with recent readings near 0.8% in August and the June conditional forecast holding at 0.6% for 2026–2027. The policy rate has remained at 0% since early 2025, viewed as close to neutral given structural factors such as the Swiss franc’s strength and the country’s energy mix that have muted imported price pressures. Trader consensus reflected in the 90% implied probability of no change aligns with banker surveys and analyst views from Nomura and others anticipating a prolonged hold, as second-round effects from recent energy spikes tied to geopolitical tensions have not materialized. The SNB continues to signal readiness for foreign-exchange intervention to counter excessive franc appreciation, reinforcing expectations that rates will stay anchored absent a clear shift in the inflation trajectory or growth data.
