Tesla shares opened sharply lower on July 23, 2026 after Q2 results showed revenue of $28.24 billion beating consensus while adjusted EPS of $0.33 missed estimates amid a surge in capital expenditures exceeding $25 billion annually for robotaxi, Optimus, and AI initiatives. The resulting free-cash-flow burn and margin pressure prompted analysts to highlight elevated spending risks, driving premarket declines of 7–12% from the prior close near $374. With the stock trading in the low $340s early in the session, trader positioning for the daily close reflects immediate reaction to the earnings miss rather than longer-term EV delivery strength or autonomy timelines. No major additional catalysts are scheduled for the remainder of the day.
