Füchse Berlin and MT Melsungen entered their HBL opener with closely matched implied probabilities around 50 percent, reflecting a transitional Berlin side still adjusting after a 31:38 Supercup defeat to Magdeburg. Key absences for the hosts—including Nils Lichtlein’s extended foot injury and Fabian Wiede’s delayed return from ACL surgery—created uncertainty in the backcourt despite Mathias Gidsel’s presence, while Melsungen benefited from Johannes Golla’s comeback and Daniel Dujshebaev’s integration. Historical head-to-head results favor Berlin, yet Melsungen’s improved depth and home-form trends supported competitive balance. Recent defensive lapses in Berlin and Melsungen’s second-half resilience in similar fixtures underscored how injuries, early-season form, and goalkeeping execution could shift outcomes in either direction.
