Tommy Paul enters this Roland Garros first-round matchup as the stronger clay-court option, buoyed by a recent Hamburg final appearance and his quarterfinal run at the event in 2025. The American’s movement and baseline consistency translate well to the slow surface, where he has compiled solid recent results against similar competition. Rinky Hijikata, an Australian baseline grinder, has yet to secure a win at the French Open and holds a limited record on clay against top-100 opponents. Paul also leads the head-to-head series, adding to the experience gap. No significant injury concerns have emerged for either player ahead of the contest on Court 13.
