French authorities imposed a targeted curfew and gathering ban in Lyon's Presqu'île district after October 17 protests against rising living costs escalated into vandalism, looting, and arson at dozens of businesses. The Rhône prefect has renewed the measures nightly—now on the seventh consecutive night as of October 25—with assembly bans from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. followed by a curfew from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m., citing the need to maintain public order. Some nights have passed without major incidents, yet renewals continue without a fixed end date. Trader assessments of when the restrictions will be effectively lifted hinge on whether subsequent protest activity remains contained or prompts further extensions by the prefecture.
