The surging St. Louis Cardinals enter this three-game series at Citi Field with strong recent momentum after a 7-0 shutout victory in the opener on June 9, powered by timely hitting from Alec Burleson and a complete-game effort on the mound. Sitting at 35-28 and holding the top National League Wild Card spot, the Cardinals have won four straight overall and benefited from an offensive outburst during their prior sweep of Cincinnati. The New York Mets, at 29-36 and well back in the NL East, face added pressure during a six-game homestand with manager Carlos Mendoza’s situation under scrutiny, though they activated catcher Francisco Alvarez to bolster the lineup. The remaining games on June 10 and 11 feature the Mets’ home pitching staff against a Cardinals club showing improved form on the road.
