OpenAI’s confidential S-1 filing in June 2026 and CEO Sam Altman’s September 12 confirmation that a 2026 listing would be “ill-advised” due to AI safety priorities have shifted the IPO timeline firmly into 2027 while reinforcing ambitions for elevated valuations. The company’s most recent private round closed at an $852 billion post-money valuation in March, with fresh investor approaches now targeting $1.2 trillion and internal discussions centered on $1.5 trillion or higher ahead of any debut. Accelerating revenue run rates above $40 billion annualized, 1 billion-plus weekly active users, and successive frontier model releases continue to support trader expectations that public-market pricing will clear $1.5 trillion at closing, reflected in the 68.4% implied probability for that outcome versus 16.9% for no IPO by end-2027. Market-implied odds embed the premium required to bridge from current private levels amid ongoing infrastructure spend and competitive dynamics.

Market capitalization expresses the monetary value of a company’s outstanding shares, stated in its pricing currency. It is calculated as the number of shares outstanding multiplied by the closing share price on the first trading day.
If the relevant value falls exactly between two brackets, then this market will resolve to the higher range bracket.
Resolution will be based on the primary exchange’s official listing page. In the event that the relevant figure is not displayed, another reliable source will be used.
In the event of an interruption in the course of the normal trading session on OpenAI’s first day of trading (e.g., a circuit breaker or half-day), the market will resolve according to the official closing price of the abbreviated session. If no such official closing price is published, the market will resolve according to the next trading day on which an official closing price is published, treating that as the first day of trading for purposes of this market.
