Recent UK CPI data showing a decline to 2.6% in June 2026 has tempered near-term readings, yet Bank of England projections in its July Monetary Policy Report anticipate a pickup to 3.2% by Q4, driven primarily by indirect effects from elevated global energy prices amid Middle East tensions and associated supply pressures. Market-implied odds reflect this uncertainty, with the closely contested 3.5–3.9% and 2.5–2.9% brackets capturing divergent views on the persistence of imported inflation versus cooling domestic demand and base effects. Key swing factors include the trajectory of wholesale energy costs, upcoming July CPI release on August 19, and any shifts in Bank Rate expectations around the 3.75% level, which could influence wage and services price dynamics.
