This market will resolve based on the countries that officially recognize Palestine as a state by December 31, 2026, 11:59pm ET. An announcement of intentions will not suffice to resolve this market to "Yes." Only a government's formal recognition of the State of Palestine will count toward a “Yes” resolution for this market. The primary resolution source for this market will be official government information. However, a consensus of credible reporting will also be used.Diplomatic momentum for new recognitions of the State of Palestine slowed after the September 2025 wave at the UN General Assembly, when the UK, France, Canada, Australia, Portugal, and several smaller European states formalized recognition, raising the total to 157 of 193 UN members. Major remaining non-recognizers among G7 and G20 economies include the United States, Germany, Italy, Japan, and South Korea, with Italy and Japan having indicated conditional openness tied to Palestinian governance reforms, hostage releases, and limits on Hamas involvement. Belgium advanced its process in mid-2026 subject to similar conditions. Ongoing two-state solution initiatives, including France-Saudi conferences, scheduled UN debates, and bilateral diplomacy through the end of 2026, represent the primary catalysts that could prompt additional recognitions before the 2027 cutoff.
