Lionel Messi’s inclusion in Argentina’s official 26-man squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, announced by coach Lionel Scaloni on May 29, anchors the near-certain market consensus. At 38 and turning 39 during the tournament, Messi has voiced his desire to compete while remaining fit enough to contribute, with recent minor hamstring fatigue cleared as non-serious. Precursor qualifiers, his consistent Inter Miami form, and Scaloni’s public backing reinforce the expectation of a record sixth appearance for the defending champions. Traders see limited room for reversal this close to the June kickoff, though a significant new injury or unforeseen fitness setback before the opener remains the primary realistic upset scenario that could still alter the outcome.
