This market will resolve to "Yes" if an official announcement states that New York City public schools (NYC Public Schools / Department of Education) will be fully or partially closed, canceled, or postponed for students on Thursday, June 18, 2026. To qualify as "Yes", the announced closure, cancellation, or postponement must apply to at least all public schools in Manhattan south of 14th Street. An announcement covering that area or a larger area (including district-wide, borough-wide, or citywide closures) qualifies. An announcement affecting fewer schools than the full Manhattan south of 14th Street area, a single-school closure, or a remote-learning day does not by itself qualify as "Yes". Resolution will be based solely on the official announcement, regardless of whether the announced closure, cancellation, or postponement ultimately goes into effect or is later modified. This market will resolve according to official New York City government or NYC Public Schools announcements, including the Office of the Mayor, the NYC Public Schools Chancellor, or official NYC Public Schools communication channels. If no qualifying announcement is made, this market will resolve to "No".Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s enthusiastic support for the Knicks’ first NBA title since 1973, including his rapid announcement of the Thursday ticker-tape parade and City Hall ceremony plus prior moves like repealing student bedtimes during the Finals, creates strong trader expectations that he will push for school closures or schedule adjustments to accommodate the Canyon of Heroes event. Counterbalancing factors include the mayor’s limited direct authority over the Department of Education and Regents exams, which typically require coordination with the governor and state officials, plus the precedent of maintaining classes throughout the Finals despite fan excitement. Recent public statements about canceling school and Regents exams reflect his preference for maximizing participation, yet logistical hurdles around a weekday parade and competing educational priorities keep the implied probability evenly split at 50 percent. Fresh updates on official school announcements or state-level approvals could quickly shift sentiment in either direction.
