Elise Mertens and Liudmila Samsonova face off in the round of 32 at the 2026 Berlin Tennis Open on grass. Mertens enters with stronger recent grass-court results, highlighted by a straight-sets opening win at 's-Hertogenbosch before a second-round loss, while Samsonova arrives after dropping her last four matches and an early Queen's Club exit. Samsonova leads the head-to-head 2-0, though both prior encounters were on hard courts and none on grass. The surface typically suits Samsonova's power and serve, yet Mertens has posted a higher grass win rate over the past year. No significant injuries or withdrawals have been reported, and traders' implied probabilities currently favor Mertens in the low-to-mid 60s percent range.
