Wiener captured 40.7% of the primary vote compared with Chan’s 29.7%, benefiting from broader geographic support across San Francisco precincts, endorsements from state Democratic leaders including Attorney General Rob Bonta, and significant outside spending tied to housing policy priorities. Chan secured Pelosi’s endorsement late in the primary and draws strength from progressive-leaning voters on the city’s west side. With the November 3 general election two months away in this solidly Democratic district, recent activity centers on Wiener’s continued focus on AI safety legislation and housing measures, while both candidates emphasize affordability and local issues; no major shifts in polling or endorsements have altered the frontrunner dynamic since the primary results.
