Recent June JOLTS data showing job openings at 7.359 million—below consensus of 7.40 million and little changed from a downwardly revised May—anchors trader expectations for the July release due September 1. This softening, concentrated in healthcare and leisure sectors, aligns with a stable but cooling labor market featuring unchanged hires near 5.3 million, a steady 1.1% layoffs rate, and 2.0% quits rate. Forward-looking indicators such as softening private-sector hiring prints and broader economic forecasts pointing to gradual declines in openings toward 7.2 million by year-end create a tight distribution around the 7.4–7.6 million band. Seasonal factors and potential revisions add uncertainty, leaving the 7.4–7.5 million outcome as the modal but not dominant view amid closely matched probabilities.
