As the Democratic nominee running unopposed in her primary, James benefits from strong name recognition, labor and party endorsements, and New York’s consistent Democratic lean in statewide contests. Saritha Komatireddy, the Republican nominee and former federal prosecutor who also faced no primary opposition, trails significantly despite receiving an endorsement from President Trump in August. A Siena poll from early August showed James leading 54% to 36%, underscoring the structural challenges for the challenger in a state where recent attorney general elections have favored Democrats by double digits. No other candidates have emerged to alter the two-way dynamic.
