Incumbent Republican Rob Wittman faces Democratic nominee Shannon Taylor in Virginia’s 1st congressional district following her victory in the August 4 primary. The contest remains closely matched because the district carries a modest Republican tilt on the current map, Wittman’s long tenure has produced consistent overperformance, and local voters in areas such as Henrico County show mixed partisan trends. Trader consensus prices a slight Democratic edge, reflecting the typical midterm advantage for the opposition party, Taylor’s fundraising and party support, and the district’s gradual leftward shift, while Wittman’s incumbency and established record keep the outcome competitive. Further polling, fundraising reports, or national political developments before November could widen the gap.
