Rebecca Cooke’s victory in the August 11, 2026 Democratic primary for Wisconsin’s 3rd congressional district has locked in a rematch against incumbent Republican Derrick Van Orden, whose 2024 reelection margin was under 3 points in this competitive Driftless Area seat. A June 2026 House Majority PAC poll showed Cooke ahead 50-46, while both candidates have raised substantial funds and drawn national party attention, underscoring the race’s status as one of the cycle’s most contested House contests. Traders appear to assign the Democratic nominee the edge based on the district’s narrow partisan balance, recent polling trends, and historical midterm dynamics favoring the out-party in swing districts. The November general election remains the decisive event for market resolution.
