Gold (XAU/USD) trades near $4,390–$4,400 per ounce on August 17, 2026, after posting weekly gains amid fluctuating Fed rate-hike odds and persistent Middle East tensions. Elevated July CPI near 3.4–3.5% and three FOMC dissents at the July meeting keep September tightening probabilities alive, supporting higher real yields that typically pressure bullion, while softer recent U.S. data and a weaker dollar have eased some of those bets. Geopolitical risks tied to Iran and energy-price volatility continue to underpin safe-haven demand, offsetting the 25–28% correction from January’s record above $5,500. Key catalysts this week include FOMC minutes, August PMI releases, and industrial-production data that will shape near-term monetary-policy expectations and implied rate paths.
