The 2026 NCAA rushing yards race remains wide open in early August preseason, with trader consensus reflecting deep parity across proven 2025 producers and untested depth charts. Ahmad Hardy’s return from a May gunshot wound anchors Missouri’s top-ranked backfield but introduces recovery uncertainty, while Kewan Lacy’s prior SEC-leading touchdown output and Cam Cook’s FBS-high 1,659 yards keep Ole Miss and Jacksonville State contenders in play. Multiple programs feature strong rotations, including Georgia’s Nate Frazier and Florida’s Jadan Baugh, alongside transfers and incoming talent that dilute any single player’s path to volume. This competitive balance, combined with variable offensive schemes and early-season injury risks, sustains the tight market across listed options and the substantial “Other” share.
