Persistent U.S. sanctions and restricted Iranian oil exports continue to constrain foreign currency inflows, sustaining downward pressure on the rial amid projected 2026 economic contraction and elevated inflation. Open-market rates have fluctuated near 1.7 million IRR per USD in mid-June following earlier spikes above 1.8 million tied to regional tensions and naval measures earlier in the year. Central bank interventions and parallel-market dynamics influence short-term movements, while any diplomatic signals or escalation risks before June 30 could shift supply-demand balances. Trader consensus on thresholds near current levels reflects these structural barriers and volatility patterns rather than guaranteed outcomes.
