The 2026 FIFA World Cup's expanded 48-team format and new yellow-card reset rules—clearing cautions after the group stage and again after the quarterfinals—reduce the risk of key players missing knockout matches due to accumulated bookings. This structural shift, combined with the historical rarity of matches exceeding the 18-yellow benchmark set by Argentina versus the Netherlands in 2022, underpins traders' strong consensus on No. While high-stakes knockout clashes can produce intense, physical contests with elevated card counts, modern refereeing standards, video review protocols, and the infrequency of such outlier disciplinary volume make a 19-plus total in any single fixture unlikely.

Cards shown to coaches or technical staff count toward the total.
If the 2026 FIFA World Cup is cancelled, postponed after August 2, 2026, 11:59 PM ET, or it cannot be determined whether the record was broken within that timeframe, this market will resolve to “No”.
The resolution source for this market will be official information from FIFA; however, a consensus of credible reporting may also be used.
