Recent preliminary squad naming by coach Lionel Scaloni has clarified the 55-man pool for Argentina’s 2026 FIFA World Cup roster, with Lionel Messi included and Ángel Di María and Paulo Dybala excluded. Selection hinges on current form in CONMEBOL qualifiers, club minutes at European sides, positional depth, and injury resilience, as Scaloni favors continuity from the 2022 World Cup and 2024 Copa América winners. Midfield and attacking options face stiff competition from established names like Enzo Fernández and Julián Álvarez alongside emerging talents such as Alejandro Garnacho, while defensive spots remain stable around Cristian Romero and Lisandro Martínez. Final 26-man cuts will likely prioritize recent match fitness and tactical fit ahead of the June opener.
