Ohio State holds the narrowest edge in trader consensus at 18% implied probability for the top-ranked NCAA defense in 2026, driven by its No. 1 SP+ projection and defensive continuity despite significant NFL departures. Oregon follows closely at 14.5% on the strength of its elite returning defensive line featuring Bear Alexander and A'Mauri Washington, plus key transfers bolstering the front seven and secondary. Texas Tech, Indiana, and Oklahoma sit in the 7.5–10% range thanks to proven units and schematic advantages under their staffs, while Notre Dame, Georgia, and Miami cluster around 6.5% on veteran depth and recent performance trends. The bunched probabilities reflect a deep field where roster turnover, transfer portal additions, and preseason SP+ metrics create genuine uncertainty across multiple Power conference contenders.
