The navigation procedure as of market creation involves going to trends.withgoogle.com/year-in-search/ and clicking through United States → Trending → Passings. The 2026 page is expected to appear using the same navigation once released (as the 2025 page currently shows the specified ranking). This market will resolve based on the specified list regardless of navigation procedure. This market may resolve as soon as the specified list for 2026 is released. If Google does not release the specified list by March 31, 2027, 11:59 PM ET, this market will resolve to "No." The resolution source for this market will be the specified list as published by Google.High-profile deaths throughout 2026, including Dolly Parton in August, Gloria Steinem in early September, and Tim Curry in late August, have driven elevated U.S. Google search interest in passings by generating sustained media coverage, tributes, and biographical queries. Celebrity and political figures with broad cultural reach tend to dominate these rankings due to algorithmic amplification on search platforms and social sharing, outpacing lower-profile losses. Trader sentiment reflects year-to-date patterns where sudden or unexpected passings of household names create sharp volume spikes, while ongoing health updates or memorials can extend interest into year-end. Remaining months may introduce new catalysts if additional prominent figures pass before December 31.
