Hunter and Pegula enter the Italian Open semifinals with strong recent momentum on clay, having dropped just one set across their prior matches while showcasing effective net play and solid return games suited to the slow surface. Andreeva and Shnaider, a rising young pairing, have advanced with aggressive baseline rallies and improving doubles cohesion after strong showings in prior clay events. The matchup pits Pegula’s singles-honed consistency and Hunter’s doubles expertise against the Russians’ speed and power, with rest and adaptation to Foro Italico conditions likely key variables. Historical clay doubles records favor teams with proven partnership stability in extended rallies, though the youth advantage could produce upsets in high-stakes sets.
