USA enters the May 20 matchup at the 2026 IIHF Men’s World Championship with a clear edge, highlighted by its dominant 5-2 exhibition victory over Germany just days earlier in Mannheim. The Americans’ superior depth across forward lines, defensive pairings, and goaltending gives them multiple scoring options and strong puck possession, while Germany relies heavily on a smaller core of NHL-experienced players who face matchup disadvantages. Recent tournament form shows USA controlling games through structured forechecking and special-teams execution, factors that have consistently translated into regulation wins against mid-tier opponents. Traders price the outcome at 77 percent for USA based on these tangible roster and performance gaps, though any late injuries or Germany’s home-ice familiarity could create variance.
