The 2026 Big 12 rushing yards race remains tightly bunched early in the season because multiple proven backs enter with comparable production histories and supporting offenses. LJ Martin, the 2025 league leader and preseason Offensive Player of the Year at BYU, opened with a 176-yard, three-touchdown outing, yet transfers such as Cam Cook at West Virginia and Caleb Hawkins at Oklahoma State bring prior 1,400-plus yard campaigns, while returning standouts like Cameron Dickey at Texas Tech and Wayshawn Parker at Utah operate in backfields featuring complementary rushers. Early team rushing outputs from Cincinnati, Houston, and Kansas State further illustrate how offensive line play, scheme emphasis, and conference schedule strength can quickly alter individual totals across a deep group of candidates.
