The 2026 Eastern Conference playoffs featured Carolina Hurricanes, the Metropolitan Division and conference regular-season leaders with 113 points, advancing to the conference finals after sweeping the Philadelphia Flyers in round two. Montreal Canadiens reached the same stage by rallying from a 2-0 deficit to eliminate Atlantic Division champion Buffalo Sabres in seven games, showcasing strong goaltending and timely scoring from players like Nick Suzuki and Juraj Slafkovský. Carolina's depth, coaching stability under Rod Brind'Amour, and home-ice edge shaped trader consensus around their series dominance, while Montreal's momentum created competitive implied probabilities in the ensuing best-of-seven against the Hurricanes. No major injuries or roster changes altered the bracket late in the second round.
