Tatjana Maria enters this Rabat clay-court opener as the clear favorite, reflecting her established WTA ranking near the top 100 and far greater singles experience on red clay. The 38-year-old German brings recent main-draw appearances at WTA 1000 events like Rome and Madrid, where she secured wins before a second-round exit, along with a proven ability to handle slower surfaces through consistent depth and slice. Diae El Jardi, the 25-year-old Moroccan wildcard ranked outside the top 1,000, lacks comparable WTA-level matchups and will rely on home support and any early breaks to stay competitive in her first notable main-draw encounter. No prior head-to-head exists between the pair, and Maria’s superior movement and tactical variety on clay create significant barriers for an upset, though a strong start from El Jardi or fatigue factors could narrow the gap.
