Traders assign the highest implied probability to no change at the Bank of Japan's October 2026 meeting because the central bank just held the policy rate steady at 1.0% on July 31 after its June hike, while signaling focus on upside inflation risks from a weak yen and rising import costs. Recent yen depreciation toward multi-decade lows, coupled with oil-price pressures tied to geopolitical tensions, has prompted hawkish rhetoric from Governor Ueda and board members, including calls for gradual normalization toward a neutral level near 2%. Market pricing reflects expectations that any near-term 25 basis point increase is more likely in September than October, with analysts forecasting the rate reaching 1.25% by year-end. Upcoming data releases on inflation and the yen's trajectory remain key swing factors ahead of the next policy meetings.
