Patrick Mahomes anchors the Chiefs' Week 1 quarterback picture as the clear frontrunner following a season-ending ACL tear in December 2025. His recovery has progressed ahead of schedule, with clearance for full participation at the start of training camp in July 2026 and repeated public statements targeting a return for the Monday night opener against the Broncos. A June 2026 contract extension locking him in through 2033 further cements his role as the franchise signal-caller. Official depth charts list Justin Fields as the primary backup, with Garrett Nussmeier and Chris Oladokun further down the depth chart. A setback in Mahomes' rehabilitation or an unforeseen injury during the final weeks of camp remain the primary realistic paths for Fields or another option to open the season under center.

If the Chiefs do not name a single player as the starting quarterback, the market will resolve based on the player who takes the most snaps at quarterback during their first offensive drive of the game. If multiple players take the same number of snaps on the Chiefs’ first offensive drive, the market will resolve to the player who took the first snap at quarterback.
This market may not resolve before the start of the Chiefs’ Week 1 regular season game.
The resolution sources for this market will be official information from the NFL (NFL.com); however, a consensus of credible reporting may also be used.
