Paris Saint-Germain enter the 2026/27 Ligue 1 campaign as five-time defending champions and overwhelming favorites to secure another top-two finish and direct Champions League league-phase qualification. The race for the remaining spots centers on clubs including Marseille, Monaco, Lyon, Lille, and Lens, all of which underwent notable summer transfers that could reshape squad depth and attacking output. With the season opening on 21 August and France’s UEFA coefficient determining three automatic spots plus a potential playoff berth for fourth place, early results, injury management, and consistency across the 34-match schedule will heavily influence which sides reach the European league phase versus qualifying rounds. Pre-season form and opening fixtures provide the first indicators of momentum in this tightly grouped contest.
