DeMar DeRozan agreed to a one-year veteran minimum contract with the Denver Nuggets on August 21, 2026, shortly after the Kings waived him in July and following Denver’s sign-and-trade of Peyton Watson. The six-time All-Star, who averaged 18.4 points last season, sought a contending Western Conference roster and was actively recruited by Nikola Jokić, Jamal Murray, and Aaron Gordon. As a second-apron team, Denver’s limited cap flexibility made the minimum deal the only viable path, and DeRozan prioritized playing time and postseason opportunity over larger offers from teams such as the Heat, Wizards, and Pelicans. The near-certain outcome reflects confirmed reporting and the absence of counter-signings in the weeks since. A last-minute shift remains theoretically possible only if the agreement unravels before official signing, though no such developments have surfaced.
