Several programs enter the 2026 season with comparable defensive talent and continuity, creating tight trader consensus around implied probabilities for the top-ranked unit. Georgia, Ohio State, and Oregon return experienced front sevens and secondaries that ranked among the nation’s stingiest in 2025, while Oklahoma benefits from Brent Venables’ scheme continuity and Notre Dame’s depth in the trenches draws consistent preseason praise. Indiana, Texas Tech, and Miami project as strong challengers through returning production and coordinator stability, and traditional powers such as Texas, Alabama, LSU, Texas A&M, and Iowa retain roster pieces capable of elite stops. Minimal differentiation in recent analytics and spring evaluations has kept probabilities clustered, reflecting the wisdom of crowds on a wide-open defensive race.
