Magnus Carlsen holds a dominant position in the Norway Chess 2026 field as the clear favorite, driven by his record seven prior victories in the classical double round-robin, consistent world number-one rating near 2840, and status as the home player in the newly relocated Oslo event. The tournament lineup features strong challengers including Alireza Firouzja, Vincent Keymer on his debut, Gukesh Dommaraju, Praggnanandhaa Rameshbabu, and Wesley So, each positioned as realistic contenders based on their elite ratings and recent classical results. Carlsen’s early confirmation of participation helped solidify trader sentiment, reflecting his historical edge in this format despite occasional classical form fluctuations. With the event set to begin in days, factors like individual matchups, opening preparation, and any last-minute adjustments could still influence outcomes in this highly competitive six-player field.
