Elise Mertens enters this Libema Open first-round grass-court matchup as the higher-ranked player at No. 22 and defending champion, bringing strong recent form on the surface after an 8-2 grass record in 2025 and consistent results through the clay season. Bianca Andreescu, ranked No. 158, holds a 2-0 head-to-head edge but both wins came in 2019 on hard courts with no prior grass meetings between them. Andreescu has compiled a solid 23-11 year-to-date record amid her return from extended injury layoffs, including ITF titles and a WTA 125 final, yet she lacks recent victories over top-50 opponents. Mertens’ superior ranking, grass-court experience, and event familiarity position her as the consensus favorite in trader pricing, while Andreescu’s power game and historical edge create realistic upset potential on the fast surface.
