The 2026-27 Ligue 1 campaign opens this weekend with PSG entering as five-time defending champions and the clear frontrunner for another title plus Champions League league-phase qualification. France’s coefficient currently grants the top three finishers direct spots in the league phase while fourth place enters the third qualifying round. Key contenders include Lens and Lille, who secured European places last season, alongside traditional rivals Monaco, Lyon, and Marseille, each bolstered by summer transfers and managerial adjustments. Early results, injury reports, and fixture difficulty will quickly clarify the field, with the race for the final spots often decided by head-to-head results and late-season form.
