Paris Saint-Germain enter the 2026-27 Ligue 1 campaign as five-time defending champions with the strongest squad depth and transfer activity, positioning them as the clear frontrunner for automatic Champions League spots alongside consistent challengers like Monaco, Lyon, Lens, and Lille. The new season opens in the coming days with fixtures that will quickly shape early table positions, while promoted sides such as Angers and Auxerre face steep tests against established European contenders. Historical patterns show PSG rarely finishing outside the top two, yet mid-table clubs can surge on strong home form or favorable scheduling; the fourth-place side typically enters the Champions League third qualifying round, adding volatility for teams chasing that threshold. Roster health, European commitments, and any mid-season coaching adjustments will further influence the race for the three direct league-phase berths.
