The pitching matchup anchors trader focus for Royals right-hander Michael Wacha (4-2, 2.63 ERA) against Cardinals righty Dustin May (3-4, 4.85 ERA) in Friday's I-70 Series opener at Busch Stadium. Kansas City enters on a four-game skid with a 19-25 record (4.5 GB in AL Central), hammered by pitching injuries including ace Cole Ragans' 15-day IL placement last week for elbow impingement, plus Carlos Estevez (rotator cuff) and Jonathan India (shoulder, season-ending). St. Louis (25-18, 2.5 GB NL Central) holds home-field edge despite INF Ramon Urias' recent 10-day elbow stint, with both teams 5-5 over last 10 amid a competitive head-to-head history favoring Royals lately (6-4). Bullpen strains and interleague dynamics loom large.
