Recent editions highlight volatility, with Magnus Carlsen claiming victory on August 4 after scoring 9.5/11, Alireza Firouzja winning July 28, and an under-the-radar performer taking the August 11 event outright. Frequent contenders such as Hikaru Nakamura, Fabiano Caruana, and Wesley So bring superior blitz ratings and experience, but participation from elite GMs remains inconsistent week to week. Schedule proximity to other events, rest, and form streaks often determine who advances deep, as upsets remain common even among the highest-rated entrants.
