Magnus Carlsen enters Norway Chess 2026 as the clear favorite due to his world-number-one classical rating of 2840, seven prior titles at the event, and home-soil advantage in the newly relocated Oslo venue. The double round-robin format with Armageddon tiebreaks amplifies his edge in consistency and experience against a field featuring reigning world champion Gukesh Dommaraju, Alireza Firouzja, Vincent Keymer on debut, Wesley So in his sixth appearance, and Praggnanandhaa Rameshbabu. Recent lineup confirmations in February highlighted Carlsen’s scaled-back but still dominant classical schedule, while the other contenders rely on strong recent form and head-to-head records to create realistic upset potential in a tightly contested super-tournament. Trader consensus prices reflect these factors without overstating any single player’s path to the title.
