Switzerland enters this IIHF World Championship matchup as heavy favorites at 86% implied probability thanks to a deeper roster featuring NHL standouts like captain Roman Josi, Nico Hischier, and Timo Meier, bolstered by strong recent form including a home-ice win over the United States. Hosting the tournament in Zurich provides an added edge through familiar ice and crowd support, while Latvia arrives depleted after multiple key absences, including Rodrigo Abols, Uvis Balinskis, Zemgus Girgensons, and goaltenders Elvis Merzlikins and Arturs Silovs due to injuries and personal reasons. The Latvians’ limited NHL talent and recent struggles against top competition further tilt the matchup, though their organized defensive style offers some upset potential in a single game. Trader consensus reflects these roster and situational gaps, consistent with Switzerland’s silver-medal pedigree and home advantage.
