Emmanuel Macron’s two-term limit bars him from the April 2027 ballot, opening a crowded field with over 30 declared or potential candidates as of mid-2026. Marine Le Pen’s July 2026 announcement followed a court ruling that shortened her eligibility ban to 15 months despite the embezzlement conviction, positioning her as a first-round frontrunner in recent polls. National Rally’s Jordan Bardella remains a parallel contender if party strategy shifts. On the center-right, Édouard Philippe and Gabriel Attal have both launched campaigns, while The Republicans endorsed Bruno Retailleau in April 2026 after rejecting a broader primary. Jean-Luc Mélenchon has confirmed a fourth run for La France Insoumise. Fragmented party alignments, ongoing legal appeals, and internal selection processes will determine which names ultimately appear on the ballot.
