Roy Lichtenstein’s market remains robust heading into the October 7 Sotheby’s auction of “Green Head,” supported by 99 percent sell-through rates on recent estate offerings and average lot prices that have nearly doubled year-over-year. Strong demand for works across mediums, including prints and smaller paintings from the Reflections and Nudes series, has driven consistent results above estimates. The upcoming Whitney Museum retrospective “Roy Lichtenstein: Like New,” opening just days after the sale with major loans and historical groupings, is expected to sustain collector interest. Traders are monitoring these broader momentum factors, alongside typical auction variables such as estimates and competing lots, to gauge whether the work clears the listed price thresholds.
